Creating, working with, and considering the varied implications of art have been lifelong interests of Dallas resident Jackson Powers. His early years included frequent visits to Chicago museums and The Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City, providing a catalyst for his artistic creativity.
After winning a Scholastic Art Award in state-wide competition, he attended the University of Kansas, graduating with a Bachelor of Environmental Design degree and entering a career in the design field. He pursued art-related employment with a range of creative firms including a luxury home goods catalog, a design-import company producing ceramic decorative pieces, and a Dallas art gallery presenting the works of contemporary regional and international artists.
Further, he has worked for a national art transit-and-installation company as regional manager; the Meadows Museum in Dallas, where he created the original museum shop, coordinating merchandise with the museum’s collections and sourcing items in Spain; and a high-end designer showroom featuring custom-made furnishings, textiles, and lighting.
Current works by Jackson Powers highlight paper collage and abstract painting, with an emphasis on pieces for the design trade.
………Ida Kohlmeyer on creating art: “……..it evolves under its own mysterious power. This unique experience, this exquisite happening, is the thing that draws us back to the struggle, and sets creative activity high up on the ladder of human endeavor.”
